Position Title    Vocational Services Director

Program:           Growing Grounds Nursery (SLO), Growing Grounds Farm (Santa Maria), Growing                                       Grounds Downtown Store (SLO) and Supported Employment Program

Position Summary

The Vocational Services Director oversees the Growing Grounds Farm, Nursery and Downtown Store - three social enterprise businesses that provide paid employment and vocational training to over 140 clients annually.  In addition, the Vocational Services Director oversees the Supported Employment Program, which places jobseekers in jobs throughout the community.  These vocational programs provide a path to employment for adults with a mental health diagnosis and serve both San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties.  The Vocational Director provides direction, support, management and supervision to all assigned programs and staff as well as input on expansion and strategy in the vocational realm as well as identify internal methods to expand employment for our population.  The Vocational Director will also provide strategic oversight to ensure the Social Enterprises are sustainable businesses from a marketing and competitive market perspective. The Vocational Director will function as an agency liaison and public relations contact to agencies, committees and sometimes, the media who ask for input. The Vocational Director upholds and promotes the TMHA mission, values and philosophy at all times.

Hours/ Salary

Full-Time exempt position, $85,000-$100,000 depending on education and experience. Includes a generous individual benefits package.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree; 2 years of full-time mental health experience; and 4 years of full-time staff supervision or management experience OR 2 years of college education; 4 years of full-time mental health experience; and 8 years of full-time staff supervision or management experience. Strong business background and experience working with the Department of Rehabilitation, Social Enterprise or Vocational Services desired. Experience in non-profit administration also preferred. Strong interpersonal skills, collaborative work style and strong oral and written communication skills. Well defined organizational and time management skills. Ability to work independently and flexibly. Ability to handle intense situations, display good judgment and decision-making skills, and remain calm and clearheaded under pressure. Able to work effectively with a variety of people and personality types regardless of age, ethnicity, race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression or socio-economic level. Must use reasonable precautions in the performance of one’s duties and adhere to all applicable safety rules and practices while acting in such a manner as to assure at all times, maximum safety to oneself, fellow employees, clients, and other persons contacted through TMHA business. Conditions of employment include must be at least 18 years of age; possess a valid CA Driver’s License, at least 2 years driving experience, reliable transportation, proof of auto insurance, and DMV driving record that meets TMHA’s current vehicle insurance requirements.  May be required to utilize personal vehicle and auto insurance.  Ability to possess and maintain good physical and mental health.  Attendance is an essential function of this job that requires face-to-face interaction with clients and/or other employees. Must comply with a TB assessment (possible TB test if needed to confirm a negative tuberculosis result) and receipt of a criminal record clearance through fingerprinting.  Must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination, including booster, or request a medical exemption with a healthcare provider document advising against the vaccine OR an exemption based on a strongly held religious belief or practice per the California Department of Public Health. Must be able to successfully complete First Aid and CPR training.
