Medical Billing Specialist – FT, San Luis Obispo

Busy medical office has an opening for a FT Medical Billing Specialist. Ideal candidate has minimum 2 years’ experience with CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes and chart review. Candidate must be willing to work as a team and assist non-billing staff to resolve insurance and billing issues.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Preparing and submitting medical claims
• Reconciling and posting insurance and patient payments
• Reviewing accounts for insurance or patient follow up
• Researching and resolving denials
• Verifying patient insurance eligibility and benefits
• Answering insurance and patient telephone inquiries
• Maintaining current billing resources
• Reviewing and auditing medical documentation

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in medical billing, preferably Ophthalmology
• Experience with Medicare, Medi-Cal, Work Comp, and commercial insurance
• Experience with CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS codes and modifiers
• Must be efficient with strong attention to detail, organization and planning, and ability to prioritize multiple complex tasks with frequent interruptions
• Knowledge of manual and electronic billing procedures
• Ability to verify, understand, and explain patient insurance eligibility, benefits, and authorizations
• Must be a self-starter with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Excellent computer skills required including proficient knowledge of utilizing word processing, spreadsheets, email, and medical software. Knowledge of Advanced MD software a plus.
• Knowledge of insurance credentialing and contracting, PECOS and CAQH
• Knowledge of general medical office procedures
• Understanding of HIPAA guidelines
• Bilingual a plus
