Are you organized, tech-savvy, and energized by work that makes a difference? The County of San Luis Obispo Public Works Department is looking for a Human Resources Assistant (DPT) to join our dynamic Human Resources team within Public Works.
In this role, you`ll be at the center of the employee experience—helping recruit and onboard new team members, supporting employees throughout their careers, and keeping important HR processes running smoothly. You`ll manage a diverse range of responsibilities, including recruitments and new hire onboarding, performance evaluation tracking, weekly payroll processing, employee benefits and payroll support, workers` compensation, leaves of absence, and other essential HR and administrative functions.
This is a fast-paced role where no two days are exactly alike. You`ll interact with employees, supervisors, job candidates, and HR partners, providing responsive and knowledgeable customer service while handling confidential information with care and discretion.
The successful candidate will be a trusted resource who can explain processes clearly, provide guidance with confidence, stay organized amid competing priorities, and build positive relationships across the department. Education and Experience
A combination of education, training, and experience resulting in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of qualifying education and experience includes:
Either A: Three years of clerical experience equivalent to Senior Typist Clerk in a public agency; OR B: Four years of advanced journey worker level clerical experience; OR C: Bachelor's degree in public administration, accounting, or related field.
Licenses and Certificates
Certain positions within this classification may require driving. When driving is an essential function of the position, a valid CALIFORNIA driver's license will be required at the time of appointment.
