TYPE OF WORK: Under supervision, performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and operation of the Port; cleans and maintains buildings and Port property; cleans public restrooms and beach areas emptying trash barrels and removing debris from sand and parking areas; acts as part of pier maintenance crew involved in heavy manual labor repair and reconstruction of pier structures; acts as part of crew assigned to repair and maintain buildings, streets, or other land areas; acts as deckhand on LCM-6 crew, pulling, repairing, and replacing moorage tackle and performing other waterside duties, including waterside fire suppression; may assist mechanic in fabrication of parts, tools, or in performing mechanical repair functions; and performs other duties as required.
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or GED. Vocational or Technical certification and 3 years total work experience, in one or more of the following trades: plumbing, electrical, carpentry, heavy equipment operation, utility, masonry, concrete, arborist, painting, automotive, marine, or related trade experience.
KNOWLEDGE OF: Facilities maintenance and janitorial work; general construction, mechanical equipment and hand tools and their proper uses; and safe working practices in a maintenance environment.
ABILITY TO: Follow directions with reading and writing skills to accomplish desired tasks; do heavy manual labor; utilize hand power tools in building and facility maintenance; exercise good judgment in the operation of equipment and in completing jobs independently; and operate various motorized equipment. Utilize the work order management system to receive reactive repair Work Orders and document repair activities.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Valid California Driver`s License with a clean driving record and ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) report. Valid California Boater Card.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: Active physical work without prolonged heavy exertion, but with continuous exposure to unpleasant elements such as dust, mud, fumes, odors, dampness, raw or treated sewage, noise levels, or outside weather conditions. On feet most of the time involving bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces; frequent lifting of objects up to 25 lbs, with occasional lifting of objects weighing over 50 lbs. Must be able to communicate information to other workers via radio.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Medical Exam, Drug Test and Background Check.
