Job SummaryLaboratory Assistant – Clinical Laboratory position. Performs phlebotomy and specimen processing duties, maintains a clean and safe work area, completes computerized tasks, and ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations. This position is represented by SEIU.ResponsibilitiesCollects blood specimens using age-appropriate techniques and performs post-phlebotomy care.Receives, sorts, accesses, and processes specimens for laboratory testing.Completes computerized tasks related to patient registration, test order entry, specimen collection, receiving, and processing.Performs basic post-analytic tasks, including distributing reports, storing and retrieving specimens.Maintains a clean, stocked, and safe work area and performs quality-related documentation.Monitors pending work, escalates priority work, and coordinates specimen recollections.Operates basic pre-analytic laboratory equipment and prepares specimens for transport to other facilities or reference laboratories.Receives and assesses specimen acceptability, escalating to licensed personnel as needed.Communicates with customers to clarify ambiguous, unclear, or duplicate test orders.Routes, distributes, and retransmits released or reported results.Receives incoming calls for the laboratory and assists or transfers callers appropriately.Performs other job-related duties as assigned.QualificationsHigh School Education/GED or equivalent (required).Associate's or Technical Degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience (preferred).Experience in phlebotomy in an acute care environment (preferred).Certified Phlebotomy Technician I (CPTI) license (required).Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved vendor (required).Organizational RequirementsAll associates are required to receive all applicable required vaccinations as a condition of employment and annually thereafter, where required.
