To assist the Art Gallery Coordinator in support of the H. J. Miossi Art Gallery operations. This is a recruitment for a short-term/temporary position.
Keeping count of visitors for record keeping purposes and grant reporting. Greeting the public and being able to answer questions about the exhibitions on view. Answering phones and taking messages. Maintaining a clean work environment in the gallery office and back prep area Assisting with opening receptions by setting up tables, brewing coffee and popping popcorn. Assisting with installation and de-installation of exhibitions, including helping to pack artwork, patching and painting gallery walls, moving artwork during curatorial process Prepping printed materials for exhibitions photocopying and assembling binders of artwork lists Students will be expected to attend artist talks or watch recordings of them as part of their job, in order to have a better understanding of exhibitions and be able to answer questions and speak engagingly with gallery visitors about the exhibitions. General Qualifications: Must be able to follow directions. Applicants should be put together, polite, easy to work with. Customer service skills are a plus. The ideal candidate should have an interest in contemporary art, as they will be expected to learn about the artists and work that we show in order to be able to talk about it with gallery patrons. An Art Appreciation class would be helpful. Art or art history majors are preferred as this is a rare opportunity for work experience in this field in San Luis Obispo, though not a requirement of the job.
This is a recruitment for a short-term/temporary position. Approximately 10 hours per week, generally weekdays 11am-4pm but also some evenings on occasion for special events. We can work around your class schedule though.
