Phlebotomist - Per Diem - Campus Health and WellbeingJob no: 556939Work type: StaffLocation: Cal Poly - San Luis Obispo CampusJob SummaryUnder the general direction of the Director of Clinical Services and with supervision from the Clinical Lab Scientists, this position is responsible for serving as the laboratory phlebotomist and providing support to the overall laboratory operations and clinical staff. Duties include performing a variety of standard clinical assistance work and functioning as the primary laboratory receptionist and phlebotomist. This position prepares media and reagents, assists in preventive maintenance and quality control in accordance with CLIA regulations for use in the diagnosis and treatment of medical problems.Position will be 1‑year temporary with possibility of extension.Department SummaryCampus Health & Wellbeing helps students achieve and maintain academic success and lifelong health by providing timely and appropriate primary and acute health care, disease and injury prevention education, professional mental health services, outreach, educational services, and campus consultations.Key QualificationsGeneral knowledge of clinical laboratory operations and equipment, including laboratory safety and quality assurance practices and procedures.Knowledge of current recognized standards and terminology to perform within the scope of practice.Ability to perform phlebotomy using appropriate equipment including venipuncture and capillary puncture.Ability to collect required specimens and perform assigned CLIA‑waived testing with required attention to accuracy and detail.Ability to use applicable equipment and materials in performing laboratory tests.Education and ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalent and one year of related experience in a health‑care setting or equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.Licenses, Certificates, CredentialsValid and current certification as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician I, as defined by the California Department of Health Services, permitting the incumbent to perform skin punctures and venipuncture.Salary and BenefitsAnticipated Hiring Range: $27.39 – $32.00 per hour.Classification Range: $27.39 – $100.10 per hour.Cal Poly offers a best‑in‑class benefits program, including health, dental, and vision insurance, retirement participation in the Public Employees' Retirement System, and educational benefits for eligible employees.Equal Opportunity and Excellence in Education and EmploymentThis position is open and available to all regardless of race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin.
