Job Description – Psychiatric Technician Qualification Requirements All Temporary/Relief Psychiatric Technicians must meet the following minimum qualifications: Experience: Twelve (12) continuous months of experience within the last three (3) years performing services similar in scope to those defined below in a public or private institution. Internship experience does not count toward the required experience. Licensure: Must possess and maintain a current and valid license issued by the California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians to perform services in the State of California. Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in the English language and able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Must be able to read, understand, and write effectively in English. Any Psychiatric Technician who fails to meet these minimum qualifications will not be permitted to perform services. Service Delivery Requirements Under the direction of the Institution's designated leadership, the Temporary/Relief Psychiatric Technician shall provide services within the scope of practice for a Psychiatric Technician, in accordance with institutional policies and procedures. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Provide a basic level of general behavioral and psychiatric nursing care to mentally or developmentally disabled patients/youth. Conduct daily clinical rounds and monitor patients/youth exhibiting signs and symptoms of mental illness. Under the general supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Medical Doctor (MD), perform psychiatric nursing procedures such as: Administering medications and treatments, including hypodermic injections. Taking and recording temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and respiration. Performing all other general nursing procedures within the scope of licensure. Collaborate with other disciplines as part of a treatment team to develop treatment plans and objectives for patients/youth. Assist in developing and conducting group and individual therapy sessions; may serve as a group therapy provider. Coordinate with custody personnel in the management of mentally or developmentally disabled patients/youth. Observe and report significant changes in patients'/youths' physical condition or behavior. Prepare and coordinate clinical appointments, ensuring patients/youth are present for their sessions. Perform first responder duties as needed, including CPR and first aid. Follow all documentation and reporting procedures accurately and completely as required by institutional policies. Contribute to maintaining a safe, secure, and therapeutic environment for all patients/youth. Employment Type: Full Time Salary: $45 - $50 Hourly Bonus/Commission: No
