Position Summary

Ensures compliance with applicable regulatory requirements regarding radiation protection procedures to ensure compliance with federal and state regulatory agencies, and ensures proper response of facility personnel in the event of an emergency situation. Ensures compliance with applicable radiation safety procedures. Supervises activities involving the coordination and maintenance of the plant's radiation protection programs.

To obtain and maintain employment, you must be able to pass a drug and alcohol screen, a security background check for unescorted access to a nuclear plant, psychological screen, and be subject to random drug and alcohol screening in fulfillment of federal requirements.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.

A reasonable salary range is:
California Minimum: $162,000
California Maximum: $276,000

Job Responsibilities

• Develops and implements work plans in support of department goals.
• Ensures the radiation protection policies and procedures are in compliance with federal and state regulatory agencies and meet the standards established by industry recognized boards.
• Head of the Radiation Protection department.
• Interfaces with senior leadership, NRC and other regulatory personnel on matters related to implementation of radiation safety programs
• May also directly supervise Health Physicists and/or Engineers.
• Provides direction in the assigned area in support of business area objectives with short- term impact on functional goals.
• Responsible for the design and implementation of policies and programs relating to applied radiation protection programs including radiological environmental monitoring, groundwater protection and radioactive waste processes.
• Responsible for the radiation safety aspects of the plant emergency response procedures.
• Responsible for the radiation safety training of all nuclear site personnel.
• Responsible for the RP Technician accredited training program and curriculum.
• Sets plant and department goals in support of established objectives.
• Supervises General Foreman (second-level supervisors). Ensures compliance with laws/regulations, provides direction to workers, directs others to repeat a task if not satisfactorily done, and gives verbal instructions to colleagues as part of a system or process.

Qualifications

Minimum:

• Bachelors degree in a science or engineering subject, including formal training in radiation protection, or
  • Professional engineer's license, or
  • Successful completion of engineer in training examination, or
  • Successful completion of 80 semester credit hours of the technical portions of an engineering, engineering technology, or related science program may be substituted for the degree. The course shall be in appropriate technical subjects relevant to the position to be filled.
• Related experience may be substituted for education at the rate of 6 semester credit hours for each year of experience up to a maximum of 60 hours of credit
  • 8 years of relevant experience, including four years of experience in applied radiation protection. At least three years of this experience shall be in applied radiation protection work in a nuclear facility dealing with radiological problems similar to those encountered in nuclear power plants, preferably in a nuclear power plant. During the three years, the individual shall participate in the radiation protection section of an operating nuclear power plant during the following periods:
    1. Routine refueling outages (one to two months)
    2. Two months operation above 20 percent power
• 6 months experience shall be onsite
