We are representing a rapidly growing, top-tier electrical contractor that isexpanding its presence in the Southeast and continuing to invest heavily in the mission critical and data center market. The organization is seeking a Director of Preconstruction to lead and scale preconstruction efforts out of its Charlotte office.

This is a high-visibility leadership role with direct impact on project pipeline, client relationships, and overall growth strategy.

Position Overview

The Director of Preconstruction will be responsible for leading all preconstruction activities, overseeing estimating strategy, and driving early-stage project success across complex electrical construction projects, with a strong focus on mission critical and large-scale commercial work.

This individual will partner closely with executive leadership, operations, and clients to ensure competitive, accurate, and strategic project pursuits.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead all preconstruction and estimating efforts for the region, including conceptual budgeting, detailed estimates, and bid strategy
• Oversee and mentor a team of estimators and preconstruction professionals
• Develop and maintain relationships with clients, GCs, engineers, and key stakeholders to support project pursuits
• Drive value engineering efforts and cost optimization strategies across projects
• Collaborate with operations teams to ensure seamless transition from preconstruction into execution
• Evaluate project risks, constructability, and scheduling considerations during early project phases
• Support business development initiatives and strategic growth of the regional pipeline
• Implement and refine preconstruction processes, tools, and best practices

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in electrical construction with a strong background in estimating and preconstruction leadership
• Proven experience delivering large-scale projects, ideally within data centers, mission critical, or complex commercial environments
• Strong understanding of electrical systems, including MV/LV distribution, switchgear, and critical infrastructure
• Demonstrated leadership experience managing and developing teams
• Experience working with top-tier general contractors and/or directly with owner clients
• Strong financial acumen and ability to manage budgets, cost models, and bid strategies
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
