San Luis Obispo County Parks & Recreation Department is now accepting applications for Temporary/Seasonal Aquatics Coordinators!
Plans, promotes, implements, coordinates, and supervises the daily operation of public swimming pools and beaches. Responsible for assisting with scheduling, training, conducting in-service training, evaluating and supervising of all aquatic staff; ensures compliance with the highest safety standards across all aspects of program and facility operations; promotes and cultivates an inclusive environment that values diversity, equity, and community enrichment in alignment with the mission and values of the department and the County.

This recruitment may be used to fill future permanent, substitute, limited term, and temporary positions, both full-time and part-time throughout the County.
The Ideal Candidate
Not in order of importance)
- Evaluates accidents and rescues by lifeguard staff.
- Provides supervision and support for all lifeguard staff.
- Renders emergency care and support to lifeguards.
- Leads staff in-service training, and lifeguards.
- Develops schedules for staff
- Coordinates and oversees operations of aquatic programs.
- Oversees the collection of all revenue from swimming pools. Reconciles and delivers deposits to the Recreation Manager
- Interpret, explain, and enforce rules, policies and procedures.
- Oversees the daily operations related to swimming pools and beach areas.
- Assigns, prioritizes and ensures completion of all tasks.
- Assists in pool chemistry tests and ensures meeting health code guidelines.
- Assist with maintenance and cleaning of aquatic facilities.
- Backup Lifeguards and/or support when required to ensure safety of public and staff.
- Supervises, trains and evaluates the performance of lifeguards.
- Administrative duties as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Two years of experience as a Lifeguard I/II or equivalent is preferred.
Experience in the development of staff, programs, and the operation and maintenance of swimming pools is preferred.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES: Must possess valid certifications in Lifeguarding, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, and Title 22 First Aid. EMT certification may be subsisted for the CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Title 22 requirements. In addition, the most qualified applicants will possess valid certifications for Lifeguarding Instructor, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer Instructor, and/or First Aide/AED/CPR Instructor training.
Minimum three (3) years' experience:
- Supervisory or leadership experience.
- Experience working in an aquatic facility.
- Availability to work a flexible schedule.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent writing and communication skills.
- Ability to react quickly and effectively in emergencies and activate facility EAP.
- Excellent customer service skills.
OTHER SPECIFICATIONS:
Employees in these classifications are required to work irregular hours, holidays and weekends. New employees are required to complete INS Employment Eligibility Verification forms to certify citizenship or legal residency and authorization to work. These are temporary appointments without benefits or tenure. Must also pass County pre-employment medical exam. All prospective employees must submit to and pass screening under Public Resources Code Section 5164 in regard to criminal offenses.
