Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary

Under the direction of and reporting to the Maintenance Manager, this position is responsible for troubleshooting and repairing buildings and equipment of Cal Poly Partners' including, but not limited to electrical, mechanical, refrigeration, plumbing, carpentry, and automotive maintenance and repairs. This position is considered an emergency or time sensitive repair function. Evaluation of operational needs and good time management skills are key traits of this position. The maintenance technician will also coordinate services of outside contractors to ensure all repairs and services are provided pursuant to applicable codes, standards, and timelines.

Minimum Qualifications
High School degree or equivalent
Either completion of a recognized apprenticeship on one of the mechanical construction and maintenance trades (electrical, refrigeration) or three years of journeyman level experience involving the maintenance, repair, and operation of mechanical equipment
Common hand and power tools, power cleaning, sewer cleaning, refrigeration recovery and service, power activated tools, welding equipment
Possess working knowledge of the NEC, State and Local building codes
Possess working knowledge of the NSPC as well as applicable State and Local standards for commercial plumbing
Possess working knowledge of the IMC as well as applicable State and Local standards for commercial mechanical systems
A thorough knowledge of methods, materials and equipment used in the operation and repair of refrigeration, plumbing, heating, electrical, water and sewer system. Thorough knowledge of materials, methods, and tools used in the repair of mechanical equipment
Ability to prioritize, plan, organize, and meet time lines
Ability to lead others in managing tasks; train and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationship with others
Excellent verbal and written skills and the ability to interface with all levels of staff, Board of Directors, university community, including students, faculty and staff, and the public
Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy
Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance
Possession of a valid California Driver's License and satisfactory driving record
A background check is required for all regular benefited positions

Typical Essential Functions
Perform preventative maintenance, trouble-shooting, repair and replacement services as needed on a variety of refrigeration equipment, including replacement of compressors and their components on both small appliances and large high-pressure systems using industry standard techniques and testing equipment
Test electrical circuits both AC 115/208 and DC low voltage, troubleshoot, repair and or replace electrical components including but not limited to motors, switches and relays
Coordinate with State Electricians and Electrical Contractors for Electrical shutdowns and other project related tasks
Plumbing repair and or replacement for hot and cold water lines, steam and drain lines, ProPress and solder connections, rebuild solenoids, operate power drain equipment, identify and remove or encapsulate asbestos insulating materials and other duties as assigned
Performance mechanical troubleshooting, repair or replace bearings, shafts, pulleys, chains, belts, form sheet metal, weld, prepare shop drawings, and miscellaneous fabrication as required
Perform basic carpentry and construction tasks including but not limited to light framing, patching and repair of drywall and stucco, installation and repair of ceramic tile, small concrete projects, installation of signage and displays, millworks, finish and painting
Troubleshoot and repair gas and propane systems and equipment as applicable including replacement of valves, controls and ports, flame and air mixture adjustments and light pilots
Perform general vehicles maintenance and repair including basic cleaning, refueling, oil changes and as otherwise necessary for safe operation of fleet vehicles
Manage contract vendors as needed
Maintain a clean, safe working area at all times
Adhere to OSHA and EPA requirements
Purchase parts using competitive pricing and competitive buying in accordance with CP Partners purchasing policy
Perform other duties assigned
