Job Summary
Cal Poly Campus Dining is seeking a dynamic and results-driven Marketing & Communications Manager to lead the development and execution of all marketing, communications, and public relations strategies. This role is responsible for promoting the Campus Dining brand, driving engagement, and ensuring consistent messaging across all internal and external channels.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyzes customer research, current market conditions and competitor information
- Expands and develops marketing platforms
- Manages the productivity of the marketing plans and projects
- Monitors, reviews and reports on marketing activity and results
- Delivers marketing activity within agreed budget
- Creates marketing presentations
- Monitors industry best practices and trends
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of two years marketing experience, with knowledge in foodservice preferred
- Excellent writing skills
- Exceptional skills in copywriting and editing for diverse media (print, digital, social)
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field
- 3-5 years of professional experience in marketing or communications, preferably within a high-volume, dynamic environment
- Proven leadership experience in leading teams, including direct management of staff and/or interns
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, work under tight deadlines, and adapt to evolving priorities
Preferred Skills
- Experience in the food service, hospitality, or higher education industry
- Proficiency with email marketing platforms and content management systems (CMS)
- Strong understanding of current social media best practices, trends, and analytics
Strategy and Leadership
- Under the guidance of the Department Director, lead, mentor, and manage a team of full-time staff and college interns, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment
- Develop and execute comprehensive marketing and communication strategies aligned with organizational goals and campus initiatives
- Generate innovative marketing ideas and campaigns to increase incremental revenue, dining plan participation, and overall student satisfaction
- Manage project timelines efficiently to ensure successful campaign delivery
Content Creation and Digital Management
- Direct all social media activities, including developing engaging content calendars, creating platform-specific content (visuals, captions, stories), and following current digital trends
- Oversee email marketing campaigns, including list segmentation, creative design, and performance analysis
- Manage and update the organization's website to ensure all information (menus, hours, events) is accurate, current, and optimized for user experience
- Ensure all digital content, print materials, and signage adhere to Cal Poly Campus Dining's brand standards
Communications and Public Relations (PR)
- Lead copywriting and editing efforts for all marketing materials, ensuring clear, persuasive, and error-free messaging
- Manage all internal and external communications, including crisis communications and operational updates
- Prepare professional presentations to internal stakeholders and external partners
Engagement and Events
- Coordinate and manage promotional efforts at on-campus events, including tabling in high-traffic student areas to directly promote dining plans, services and special events
- Oversee event marketing logistics and develop materials to maximize attendance and engagement at key events
- Manage and direct all original photography and videography shoots for use in social media and marketing materials
