Science & Engineering

Stand is a new technology and insurance company revolutionizing how society assesses, mitigates, and adapts to climate risks. Our leadership team has extensive experience in insurance, technology, and climate science: building billions in market value at prior ventures.

We're expanding our technical team to develop groundbreaking technologies for quantifying climate risks at the property and community levels, and we're hiring an exceptional Sr Fullstack Software Engineer to be a key part of this effort.

Homes respond differently to climate catastrophes, such as wildfires, but traditional methods often fail to accurately assess these risks. As a result, homeowners lack guidance on protective measures, and insurers give little credit for mitigation.

Role Description:

As part of Stand's software engineering team, you'll manage diverse applications and pipelines—from automating core insurance workflows (policy management, payments, claims, underwriting) to building novel processes like wildfire preparedness inspections and real-time monitoring.

We're not just hiring software engineers—we're looking for builders ready to redefine what software engineering means in the age of LLMs and agents.

Founder Mindset:

  • Ownership and Accountability: Take full responsibility for projects from start to finish, ensuring impactful outcomes, not just task completion.
  • Purposeful Execution: Work with speed and quality, making fast decisions when needed, while understanding the balance between strategy and action.
  • Clear Communication and Autonomy: Communicate clearly and operate independently by understanding the broader context of tasks and decisions.
  • Solution-Oriented and Collaborative: Focus on solutions, embrace constructive conflict with positive intent, and build trust through reliable action.

Must-Have Qualifications:

  • Experience building production level applications built with modern high level programming language (Python, Ruby, Rust, etc)
  • Experience deploying, maintaining and monitoring apps on modern PAAS systems (Heroku, Vercel, Railway).
  • Comfort Learning new tools, frameworks and languages quickly.
  • Track record of leveraging LLMs to rethink and improve engineering workflows for speed, quality, and scale
  • Conviction that building well-tested, clean code saves time.
  • Ability to work with end users in tight feedback loops to build better user experiences.
  • Proven experience owning projects and successfully working directly with stakeholders.
  • Interest in our Mission.

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Experience working at startups in a regulated industry.
  • An agile mindset (not Scrum).
  • Individuals and interactions over processes and tools.
  • Customer collaboration over contract negotiation.
  • Responding to change over following a plan.

Compensation:

The annual base salary range for full-time employees in this position is $150,000 to $220,000 + meaningful Equity Grant.

Additional Benefits:

  • Weekly lunch stipend
  • Flexible time off
  • 401k plan

Equal Opportunity Employment

Stand is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status.
