Assistant Professor of Geospatial Engineering (AY 26/27)

Position in the Civil & Environmental Engineering Department, College of Engineering, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Full?time, academic?year, tenure?track, Assistant Professor rank starting Fall 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate lecture courses and laboratories in civil engineering and geospatial engineering.
  • Contribute to curriculum development in the area of expertise.
  • Supervise undergraduate and graduate?level research.
  • Develop and maintain externally?funded research.
  • Engage in service activities at the department, college, and university levels.


Salary

Commensurate with education and experience. Anticipated range: $106,000 $117,000 per year. Qualified candidates with industry experience encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

Required

  • Earned or ABD Ph.D. in Geospatial Engineering, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or closely related field.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching, effective communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop an externally funded, applied research program involving undergraduate and graduate students and partnerships with stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in written and oral use of the English language.

Preferred

  • Experience in university?level teaching and research.
  • Field and/or laboratory?based instruction experience.
  • High?impact educational practices, professional licensure, or relevant certifications (e.g., Professional Land Surveyor).
  • Industry experience in geospatial engineering.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and fostering inclusive environments.


About the Department

The Civil & Environmental Engineering Department offers two B.S. programs (Civil Engineering ~650 students, Environmental Engineering ~250 students) and an M.S. program (~50 graduate students). Both programs are ABET accredited and consistently ranked among the best in the U.S. for non?Ph.D. granting institutions. The department actively supports student chapters of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Society of Women Engineers, and Air and Waste Management Association.
