The County of San Luis Obispo Department of Public Works is looking for a self-motivated, dynamic, and enthusiastic Capital Projects Manager to fill key roles leading teams in planning and managing a variety of Capital Improvement Projects for County owned facilities. The Department of Public Works is responsible for implementing upgrades to existing facilities and for development of new facilities. Upkeep and upgrades to facilities are based on condition assessments and annual department request. Development of new facilities is based on a long-term Capital Improvement implementation plan for new facility projects throughout the County. The County utilizes delivery methods such as Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build, Job Order Contracting (JOC) and Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR).

Job Perks:
The ideal candidate will have knowledge and/or experience in a variety of the following areas: facility planning, conceptual master plans, project management, development of project documents including budgets and reports for capital improvement projects with an emphasis on buildings, familiarity with building construction practices and techniques, permitting, preparation of meeting agendas, status reports and have the ability to lead, supervise and manage a team. The candidate also needs to be familiar with reviewing plans and specifications; preparing schedule and cost estimates; managing consultants; coordinating utilities; perform technical computations; and communicate effectively in writing and with a presentation. The County employs various project delivery methods such as Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build, CMAR and Job Order Contracting (JOC), so it is desirable that the successful candidate have experience in more than one of these delivery methods. The successful candidate needs to be self-motivated with excellent organizational skills and must have the ability to manage staff to successfully deliver on its mission.
Education and Experience:
A combination of education, training, and experience resulting in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of qualifying education and experience includes:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in any discipline; construction management, architecture, engineering or a related field are preferred. In addition, four years of increasingly responsible construction or building maintenance experience including project or facilities management duties, two years of which being in a supervisory position or lead worker position.
Licenses and Certificates:
Certain positions within this classification may require driving. When driving is an essential function of the position, a valid CALIFORNIA driver license will be required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment. License as an Architect or Registered Engineer is preferred. Certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP) is also preferred.
