Overview

Full-time Lecturer City and Regional Planning at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. The Department of City and Regional Planning in the College of Architecture and Environmental Design seeks a full-time lecturer for the 202627 academic year, with potential for a one-year renewal based on performance and departmental needs.

Responsibilities

  • Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in one or more of the following areas: community planning, urban design, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Lead community planning studios or urban design studios, and teach in both laboratory (studio) and lecture-format courses.
  • Engage in learn-by-doing and project-based learning; studios may involve collaboration with real community clients (cities, counties, or community-based organizations).
  • Demonstrate ability to contribute to the department through effective teaching and collaboration.

Qualifications

  • Required: Masters degree in planning, landscape architecture, urban design, architecture, or a closely related field.
  • Five years of professional and/or teaching experience in the field of planning.
  • Demonstrated competence in urban design or community planning.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with diverse students, faculty, staff, and administrators.
  • Individuals with exceptional professional and/or academic distinction may be considered without all cited credentials.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or Professional Doctorate in planning or related field is preferred.
  • Demonstrated research or practice interests; ability to integrate theory and practice through Learn by Doing.
  • Experience supervising project work in professional or teaching settings.

Salary and Appointment

Rank and salary commensurate with qualifications, education, and experience. Anticipated hiring range: $79,000$86,112 per year. Position is eligible for an additional year based on performance and department needs.

Special Conditions

The position holder is a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and must comply with CSU Executive Order 1083. A background check is required after a conditional offer of employment. Cal Poly is smoke- and tobacco-free. CSU Out-of-State Employment Policy applies.

About the Department

The Department of City and Regional Planning is one of five in the College of Architecture and Environmental Design, offering two programs: a Bachelor of Science in City and Regional Planning and a Master of City and Regional Planning, with a joint Masters degree in Transportation Planning with the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department. The department emphasizes sustainability, collaboration, and a strong linkage to the California planning profession.
