Overview

The Computer History Museum (CHM) seeks a bold, imaginative, and results-driven leader to serve as Chief Marketing and Experience Officer (CMEO). The CMEO will be the museum's chief brand steward and architect of audience growth, shaping how CHM engages the public visually, experientially, and narratively. The role unifies brand strategy, advertising, public relations, and visitor-focused marketing into a cohesive, mission-aligned approach and will oversee a diverse portfolio that includes marketing and communications, venue rental, museum services, and retail operations. The CMEO leads a high-performing team and collaborates across departments to ensure every visitor touchpoint—before, during, and after a visit—reinforces CHM's identity and inspires connection. This is a unique opportunity to reimagine the role of marketing in a cultural institution and help shape CHM's public presence during a pivotal chapter of innovation and impact under new leadership.

Salary range for this position is $200,000 to $220,000 annually. CHM is located in Mountain View, California, in the heart of Silicon Valley, and is committed to equal opportunity employment.

Responsibilities

  • Unify brand strategy, advertising, public relations, and visitor-focused marketing into a cohesive, mission-aligned approach that reflects CHM's values and ambitions.
  • Oversee a diverse portfolio that includes marketing and communications, venue rental, museum services, and retail operations.
  • Serve as the Museum's chief brand steward and architect of audience growth, shaping how CHM engages the public visually, experientially, and narratively.
  • Lead a high-performing team and collaborate across departments to ensure every visitor touchpoint reinforces CHM's identity and inspires connection.
  • Drive growth in audiences, attendance, membership, and revenue, aligning all marketing strategies with the Museum's mission.
  • Reimagine the role of marketing in a cultural institution and strengthen CHM's public presence.

Qualifications

  • Bold, imaginative, and results-driven leader with experience in brand, marketing, and audience growth.
  • Proven ability to unify marketing disciplines (brand, advertising, PR, and visitor-focused marketing) across departments.
  • Experience overseeing a diverse portfolio (marketing and communications, venue rental, museum services, retail operations).
  • Strong leadership skills to build and develop a high-performing team.
  • Ability to craft and tell compelling narratives that align with the Museum's mission and values.
