Job Overview

As a Grooming Trainee at PetSmart, you will engage with pet parents and their beloved pets, ensuring they have positive experiences while delivering top-notch salon services. You will receive training and mentorship from our experienced Professional Styling teams, learning essential grooming techniques. This role includes maintaining store cleanliness, suggesting solutions for pet parents, and adhering to pet safety standards.

This position will transition to Pet Stylist in Training upon successful completion of PetSmart's Grooming Academy.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of bathing, brushing, and grooming services under supervision, following PetSmart's established standards.
• Develop safe technical skills that meet or surpass company expectations.
• Advise pet parents on additional health and wellness solutions based on their pets' needs.
• Ensure a positive experience for pet parents through effective communication in person and over the phone.
• Maintain records of client appointments and consult on available services.
• Handle the check-in and check-out procedures for grooming appointments.
• Promote salon sales and services to help meet sales goals.
• Keep the grooming area clean and safe, adhering to sanitation protocols.
• Act promptly if a sick or injured pet is identified.
• Support other departments as needed. Additional duties may be assigned.
• Participate in a culture of belonging and recognition.
• Abide by all company policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Completion of PetSmart's Salon Academy training program is required.
• Prior grooming experience is a plus; a technical exam may be required.
• Proficient in using various computer applications.
• Ability to maintain composure and react appropriately under pressure.
• Flexible schedule availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

• Must be able to stand, walk, and use hands for a variety of tasks. Frequent reaching, stooping, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 pounds is required.
• Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts and wet environments with pet hair.
• Moderate noise levels are typical; however, high levels may occur at times.
• Frequent interaction with live animals is expected.
