POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking a highly skilled Network Engineer to design, secure, document, and optimize our hybrid network infrastructure spanning on-premises datacenters and Microsoft Azure cloud environments. This role requires expertise in firewall and VPN technologies, routing and switching, secure connectivity between environments, and adherence to industry compliance standards such as HITRUST, HIPAA, and NIST. The ideal candidate will take full ownership of network projects from planning through implementation, ensuring resilient, secure, and well-documented solutions. This is a hybrid role based in the San Luis Obispo area (minimum 3 days a week work in-office).

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain secure network infrastructure across datacenter and Azure environments, ensuring high availability and scalability.
• Configure, manage, and troubleshoot firewalls (SonicWall, pfSense, Palo Alto) and VPN solutions, including Azure VPN Gateway, ExpressRoute, IPsec tunnels, and SD-WAN, with detailed documentation of configurations and status.
• Plan and execute network projects including site-to-site VPNs, network segmentation, secure remote access, and migrations between on-prem and cloud.
• Implement and maintain advanced routing and switching protocols (VLANs, BGP, OSPF), load balancing, and DNS/DHCP services.
• Collaborate with cloud and security teams to enforce Zero Trust principles, network access controls, and secure inter-application communications.
• Monitor and respond to network security events using SIEM solutions (Microsoft Sentinel, Arctic Wolf, AWS Security Hub) and perform packet captures/traces for deep troubleshooting.
• Ensure compliance with HITRUST, HIPAA, and NIST standards, including secure configuration management, encryption in transit, and incident response readiness.
• Document all network changes with clear, specific, and up-to-date records for knowledge transfer and compliance audits.
• Provide Tier 3 escalation support for complex network issues, mentoring junior engineers and guiding projects to completion.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certifications: CCNP Security, SonicWall SNSA, Azure Network Engineer Associate, or equivalent.
• Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, VLANs, DNS, BGP, OSPF, SD-WAN, and Zero Trust Networking.
• Hands-on experience with firewall policy design, SSL/TLS and IPsec encryption, deep packet inspection, and advanced troubleshooting tools (Wireshark, tcpdump).
• Proven track record designing hybrid networks that integrate datacenter and Azure cloud resources securely and efficiently.
• Familiarity with compliance frameworks (HITRUST, HIPAA, NIST, CMMC) and their application to network architecture.
• Excellent documentation skills and ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
