ROLE TITLE: VP, External Affairs (Full Time)

SALARY: $153,400 to 227,400
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Teach For America is seeking a Vice President, External Affairs to strengthen our network of supporters in the greater Bay Area / Northern California community, to raise the critical resources needed to implement our work locally, and refine our storytelling efforts and brand to continue to position TFA as a key collaborator and partner to our communities. You will set the vision and execute across four crucial functions: (1) raising approximately $10M per year, including planning & executing key fundraising events; (2) maintaining the health and impact of our local regional boards through effective recruitment, cultivation, and ongoing stewardship; (3) managing our in-year spend to budget; (4) leading our external positioning work, managing various components of our brand, marketing, and communications. You will accomplish this by managing a team of 4 through layers. And you will serve as a key member of our Bay Area Leadership Team, shaping the cultural conditions to ensure our staff is thriving, and maximizing our impact. Your leadership will ultimately fuel our impact with approximately 160 corps members, 4,000 alumni, and 70 school partners across Richmond, Oakland, San Francisco, the Peninsula, San Jose, and including our innovative Alumni partnership work in our California Capital Valley region.
WHAT YOU'LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:
Manage our Board, including stewarding current board members, recruiting new board members, and ensuring excellent, energizing board meetings (20%)
Set vision for short- and long-term financial health, serving as the leader responsible for financial decision-making in alignment to our vision & strategy (10%)
Ensure strategic communications are leading to strengthening TFA Bay Area's external narrative (10%)
Leadership team member (10%)
Contribute to broader organizational vision, mission, and culture (10%)
A WEEK IN THE LIFE
Over the course of any week, the VP, External Affairs will spend time collaborating with the ED in preparation for external donor meetings and spaces, organizing and reviewing data to help the team understand progress towards goals, and crafting/implementing strategic plans for donor prospecting, engagement, and stewardship. You will be leading team spaces, and project meetings to understand and manage progress to critical results to ensure initiatives and deliverables are met on time and in scope. You may be collaborating with our PR firm to strengthen our narrative or work in partnership with the D, Development, Marketing, and Communication to manage crisis communications. You will lead Board committees and may be preparing to lead those spaces in partnership with the ED and SMD, Head of People, Strategy, and Operations. You will lean in and use your talents to lead and/or, support/steward work such as other regional events, critical regional board meetings, Leadership Team meetings and more.

The applicable salary range for each U.S.-based role is based on where the employee works and is aligned to one of 3 tiers according to a cost of labor index in that geographic area. Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. The expected salary ranges for this role are set forth below. These ranges may be modified in the future.
