The anticipated salary range for hire is$80,787.20 - $116,376.00annually based on experience.The top of the range for salary advancement is $134,721.60. The County of San Luis Obispo is offering a career opportunity for Engineers to join our APWA accredited Public Works Department. The department is a professional team of 300 dedicated staff who serve the residents and visitors of the central coast. There are currently vacancies for Engineers in the Design and Construction Division and the Water Utilities Division.

Design and Construction Division Engineer:Engineers in the Design and Construction Division are part of a 20-person office and field staff team with various roles ranging from project management, plan/spec/contract development, and construction management. This vacancy is for either an office-based design engineer tasked with designing County transportation and utility projects, or a predominantly field-based construction engineer tasked with construction management and construction administration.

The design engineer will be responsible for developing plans, producing quantity/engineers estimates and technical specifications to be included in our construction contracts. The construction engineer will be responsible for ensuring contractor compliance with the contract documents, consultant management, and compliance.

The design engineer candidate should have a high level of design experience using AutoCAD/Civil 3D, enjoy working in an office setting designing public transportation and utility projects with necessary field visits sprinkled in. The construction engineer should have a high level of construction knowledge, understanding public entity contracts, especially Caltrans, and enjoy field work.

Depending upon experience and qualification, an engineer could be utilized in either role based on work-load requirements.

Water Utilities Division Engineer:The Department of Public Works has an immediate opening for a Water Systems Engineer within the Departments Water Utilities Division. The Water Utilities Division is responsible for the water supply management, operation, maintenance, and capital improvements for our water utility systems, including two water treatment plants, four retail water distribution systems, three water supply dams and reservoirs, and four wholesale water distribution systems.

The Water Utilities Division is seeking a staff level engineer to assist and support professional level engineers by performing technical engineering work related to water system operations, water treatment, water distribution, and reservoir operations. In addition, duties may include assisting with the implementation of small capital improvement projects associated with the various water systems managed by the Utilities Division. The ideal candidate has some experience with hydraulics, pumps, and pipelines but more importantly an interest in water, a self-starter, and values being part of a team.

Water Systems Engineers in the Utilities Division are responsible for:

• Engineering support for the effective operations of existing water, reservoir, and flood management infrastructure;
• Project management of operations and maintenance related projects.
• Tracking water deliveries and requests, completing, updating and/or implementing water system master plans, modeling of existing systems, capacity studies, evaluation of system to identify needed capital improvement projects and any financing needs;
• Supply and demand analyses to identify and facilitate emergency exchanges of water and other resiliency measures and identify opportunities, develop and implement water supply transfers as needed to maximize the beneficial use of available water resources from the Districts wholesale water systems;
• Support of stakeholder advisory committees related to the various water and reservoir systems

The Water Systems Engineer will be assigned to the team overseeing the operation of the Districts water systems for the Nacimiento Water Project, Salinas Dam, Chorro Valley Pipeline, and County Operations Center.

2. Possession of an Engineer in Training (E.I.T.) Certificate or Land Surveyor in Training (L.S.I.T.) Certificate AND four years of paraprofessional level civil engineering, traffic engineering, or land surveying experience.

Engineer II:

1. Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field AND one year of professional level civil engineering, traffic engineering, or land surveying experience;

or

2. Possession of an Engineer in Training (E.I.T.) Certificate or Land Surveyor in Training (L.S.I.T.) Certificate AND four years of paraprofessional level civil engineering, traffic engineering, or land surveying experience AND one year of professional level civil engineering, traffic engineering, or land surveying experience.

Engineer III:

1. Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field, AND five years of professional level public works, civil engineering, traffic engineering, or land surveying experience;

or

2. Possession of a valid California Certificate of Registration as a civil engineer, traffic engineer, land surveyor or other special licensure AND two years professional civil engineering, traffic engineering, or land surveying experience.
