This position oversees the GAAP financial reporting process, audit procedures, and the preparation of various internal and external financial reports, ensuring compliance with regulatory and university standards. Additionally, the Assistant Director interprets financial pronouncements and effectively communicates technical accounting information to non-accountant stakeholders.As a primary point of contact for UAR staff, this role provides training, guidance, and compliance oversight related to CSU accounting procedures and financial reporting changes. The Assistant Director also coordinates responses to internal and external audit findings and supports financial decision-making by monitoring and analyzing university financial data while advising the Controller.This position is responsible for the accurate and timely completion of the year-end close process and the development of GAAP financial reports. Key responsibilities include ledger management, GAAP policy development, and compliance with CSU reporting deadlines.Department SummaryUniversity Accounting & Reporting (UAR) is an integral part of University Financial Services (UFS), a department within the Administration and Finance Division. UFS provides comprehensive financial and accounting services to students, staff, and faculty. These services include budget and fiscal planning, general accounting, cashiering, student accounts management, accounts receivable, property accounting, and financial reporting to support the university's financial operations.Key QualificationsStrong knowledge of accounting principles, internal controls, and financial best practices, including GAAP, public administration, and fiscal management in complex environments.Ability to interpret, develop, and apply policies and procedures while ensuring compliance with CSU, state, and federal financial regulations.Experience with mainstream accounting systems such as PeopleSoft, Oracle, or SAP, and the ability to manage financial reporting and reconciliation processes.Demonstrated leadership and management skills, including supervising staff, fostering teamwork, and maintaining professionalism in high-stakes situations.Expertise in problem-solving, strategic thinking, and data analysis to develop innovative financial solutions and process improvements.Familiarity with tax laws and regulations related to higher education and nonprofit organizations, with the ability to research and apply tax policies as needed.Education and Experience• Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field and three (3) years of professional-level accounting experience with demonstrated success in supervision and first-line management.• Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.Salary and BenefitsThe anticipated hiring range for this role is $85,000 - $120,000. Note that the offer is calculated based on the background and relevant years of experience of the individual selected.Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Anticipated Hiring Range referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.
