This is an in-office position at Inspired Flights HQ in San Luis Obispo, CA.

Job Description

Inspired Flight is seeking a talented and experienced Electrical Engineer to join our Engineering team. The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for designing complex embedded systems within drone architecture.

This role is central to our engineering department and offers significant upward mobility as the company grows in the UAV industry.

Typical responsibilities:

  • Designing electrical schematics and interconnects
  • Designing electrical cable harnesses, circuit boards, and firmware
  • Optimizing aircraft parameters for better flight performance
  • Performing test flights to validate designs
  • Implementing design best practices such as manufacturability and testability

You'll excel if you have:

  • Experience tuning flight control algorithms including PIDs and sensor filters
  • Strong circuit design and PCB layout skills using tools like Altium
  • Familiarity with drone flight control systems (PX4 or Ardupilot) and robotic autonomy technologies
  • Experience with 3D printers, Digital Multimeters, Oscilloscopes, and other development tools
  • Experience with hardware and software product design cycles
  • UAV Pilot experience and/or FAA Part 107 License
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to work in cross-functional teams, self-motivated, and capable of owning projects from start to finish

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • 0-5 years of related experience
  • Preferably in UAS, aviation, aerospace, or defense sectors
