Warehouse Worker - Plant Operations

Description:

The Warehouse Worker will be directed by the Utility Shop Supervisor in Plant Operations at the Department of State Hospitals - Atascadero (ASH). The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties but not limited to:

• Ensures commodities are appropriately stored or rerouted to specific areas.
• Maintains warehousing areas, related equipment and fixtures in a condition safeguarding product integrity, ensuring stock rotation, employee safety, inventory control and the security of the facility.
• Conducts physical inventories and stock on hand records are reconciled.
• Replenishes orders to guarantee uninterrupted availability of supplies for the operational needs of the facility.
• Ability to operate a computer is required.
• Ensures requisitions for varied commodities are filled in a timely manner, accuracy is checked; and orders are delivered to designated locations.
• Pick-up and delivery of freight and supplies from businesses throughout the state. Pick-up of incoming mail from Post Office and delivery of out-going mail to Post Office. Pick-up and delivery of Express Mail as emergencies warrant this action.
• Material handling equipment will include, but not be limited to a freight elevator, weigh scales, hand trucks, stock carts, forklifts, electric carts, and pallet jacks.
• Must be able to read, write and speak English. Employee must be able to do mathematical calculations. Employee must be able to see and hear.
• Physical demands will require standing/walking most of an eight hour shift on concrete surfaces, working around moving equipment, lifting (60 pound packages above shoulder height), bending, balancing, and pushing heavy (1200 pound) stock carts, twisting, turning, and balancing, grasping/handling, and eye-hand-foot coordination.
• Contact with the public, other state employees and occasionally patients.
• Work related documents are prepared and routed to specific points within the facility.

In order to be considered for this job vacancy, you must satisfy one of the following requirements:
1. BE LIST ELIGIBLE: Successfully complete the competitive State civil service exam pertaining to this classification at Warehouse Worker Exam Bulletin , OR
2. BE TRANSFER ELIGIBLE: Have current employment with the State of California in the same classification or in a classification that is comparable (employees who wish to be considered based on transfer eligibility must meet the minimum qualifications of the classification per DPA Rule 250), OR
3. BE REINSTATEMENT ELIGIBLE: Have obtained previous permanent employment with the State of California in the same classification or in a classification that is comparable.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Possession of a Class III California driver license valid for the operation of any two-axle single-motor vehicle and one towed vehicle (i.e., a trailer with a gross weight of 6,000 pounds or less).* AND
Either I: One year of experience in the California state service performing the duties of a Service Assistant (Warehouse and Stores). OR
II: One year of experience assisting in the receipt, storage or issue of materials from a centralized stockroom or warehouse.

*If it is determined that an applicant does not meet the minimum qualifications, the applicant's name may be removed from the eligibility list.
