Your Role :

The role of Deputy Director, Public Safety Communications (PSC) demands exceptional leadership skills and a strategic mindset to effectively guide and manage critical public safety communications initiatives. As a key executive position, the Deputy Director is responsible for :

Strategic Leadership

  • Implementing and overseeing statewide plans for Public Safety Communications (PSC), including Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG911) initiatives.
  • Chairing important advisory boards and committees, driving policy decisions and technological advancements.
  • Collaborating with various stakeholders to shape best practices in public safety communications.

Operational Management

  • Directing multiple branches, including the California 9-1-1 Emergency Communications Branch, Radio Communications Branch, and Technical Services Section.
  • Overseeing the implementation and maintenance of critical infrastructure, such as the NG911 system and the California Radio Interoperability System (CRIS).
  • Managing substantial budgets and special funds to ensure effective resource allocation.
  • Leading statewide emergency communications operations during major incidents and disasters.
  • Coordinating rapid deployment of emergency communications systems in crisis situations.

Executive Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with Executive Management to establish policies and procedures aligned with the department's mission and supporting legislation.
  • Represents the department in high-level interactions, including :

• The Governor's office

• Federal, state, and local government officials

• News media

• The public

This executive-level position requires a leader who can navigate complex technological landscapes, drive innovation, and ensure the seamless operation of vital public safety systems that serve California's diverse population.
