At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our diverse team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!
This role is part of Advanced Concepts & Enterprise Engineering (ACE), where we define and implement technical standards, deploy and administer tools, processes, training, and subject matter expertise for product engineering and manufacturing. ACE enables all Blue Origin business units to benefit from commonly used capabilities, hardware, and software and assists business units in identifying, selecting, and training engineers from both inside and outside the organization. You will influence engineering practices across multiple programs from engines to vehicles, ensuring consistency and efficiency at an enterprise level.
As part of a diverse, hardworking team of engineers, you will directly support Blue Origin's success by leading the development and deployment of model-based definition and ultimately driving Blue Origin towards a Model-Based Enterprise architecture. This includes defining requirements for the architecture, establishing digital product definition standards, aligning processes and tools to the common architecture, and integrating the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system with other model-based approaches (such as model-based Systems Engineering and model-based Design). You will support the evaluation and implementation of the next generation of model-based engineering tools.
As a senior engineer within the ACE Systems Engineering team, you will lead the development of effective technical processes and methodologies for product definition, including publishing standards and requirements for leveraging model-based definition across the enterprise. You will be the focal for customer and stakeholder engagement; translate expectations and use cases to requirements; perform requirement verification and validation; drive alignment between design, manufacturing, and enterprise resource systems; and support future model adoption and integration opportunities. You will also mentor a team of system engineers in support of rapid deployment and adoption of these new standards and tools.
We are looking for you to apply your technical expertise, communication and problem-solving skills, collaborative attitude to make a positive impact on safe human spaceflight. A passion for our mission and vision is required!
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Lead the establishment, coordination, documentation, and continuous improvement of Model-Based Definition (MBD) processes and standards. Ensure alignment with industry best practices for certifiable flight hardware while preserving development speed, agility, safety, first-time quality, and design pedigree.
- Serve as the mediator among diverse stakeholders, resolving conflicts and making decisions on organizational approaches to system definition in support of manufacturing execution.
- Collaborate with internal customers, and lead stakeholders and tool developers to refine requirements into actionable solutions, implementing model-based solutions across the enterprise.
- Organize and chair system engineering working groups, communities of practice, and best practice groups to align the model-based strategy across all programs and functional areas.
- Devise strategies for integrating specialty engineering disciplines—such as operability, reliability, maintainability, and supportability—into a future Model-Based Enterprise, including robust analysis and verification plans.
- Mentor and train Blue Origin employees on Systems Engineering processes, methods, and best practices, building organizational capability and promoting continuous improvement.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum of a B.S. degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace engineering or other technical field.
- 8+ years of systems development and process improvement leveraging defining model-based definition.
- Ability to communicate, coordinate, and work effectively with interdisciplinary and multi-functional teams.
- Knowledgeable of systems engineering practices, digital and model-based engineering architecture, integration processes, and product lifecycle management systems.
- Experience with requirements management tools, product lifecycle management (PLM) software, and CAD software.
- Demonstrated track record of resourcefulness and strong problem-solving abilities with meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience leading program or corporate transformations to model-based definition, including process development projects, requirements writing, and defining scope, schedule, and milestone prioritization.
- Understanding of Model-Based Definition standards (ASME Y14.41, ASME Y14.100, ISO 16792).
- Experience with Jama, Windchill, and Creo.
- Ability to be self-directed, balance several tasks simultaneously, and delegate work across a team of systems engineers.
- A thorough understanding of the objectives, values, and strategies of Systems Engineering.
- Excellent written and verbal skills and ability to communicate technical information effectively.
- Experience leading, mentoring, and developing engineers.
