Pay Rate: $20.48/hr (effective July 1, 2025)
Tentative Interview Dates: Beginning the end of May through Mid-June
Required In-Person Onboarding: August 5th & 6th
Required Attendance for Training: August 11th through 15th

About Environmental Resource Center (ERC):

The Environmental Resource Center of Associated Students focuses on increasing sustainability through projects, policies, education, and outreach. Our team works towards promoting zero waste, educating students on various social justice and environmental issues through environmental events, workshops, providing sustainability resources for students on campus, and incorporating sustainable advancements into the functions of the Associated Students' operations and programs.

Position Summary:

The Student Director is responsible for implementing and overseeing the operation of ERC's programs. They have an understanding of the program's department areas. The Director is responsible for ensuring the program's future success through partnership development with (Environmental Science, HPW, the Office of Sustainability, and the Climate Headquarters. The Director provides the vision and implements the calendar of events every semester.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Conceptualizes, plans, implements, coordinates, and oversees events and projects that engage students with different environmental and sustainability fields, such as environmental justice, food rescue/recovery, waste diversion and other educational topics.
  • Schedules tabling outreach activities, events, and workshops on a biweekly basis to raise awareness of different environment and social justice issues
  • Supports with maintaining the Sol Patch Community Garden, including partnership development with the Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC) staff, adopting garden beds, upholding the Garden's Land Ethic, and scheduling workshops at both garden locations
  • Co-leads the weekly ERC Food Rescues at the campus dining hall. including, upholding safety/hygiene standards, working relations with the campus dining hall staff, and maintaining partnerships with local San Francisco nonprofits.
  • Maintains relationships with vendors and SFSU staff to support gardening and waste management needs, e.g. Recology and SFSU Grounds Department
  • Orders and maintains office, garden, and food rescue supplies
  • Assist in the process of developing the ERC annual budget, and completes Accounting and Finance forms for all ERC events.
  • Recruits and supervises the ERC interns and volunteers; coordinates with the Environmental Studies Department to assure ERC internships qualify for required course credit hours
  • Acts as the liaison between students and the University to communicate sustainability related needs; sits on the SFSU Campus Sustainability Committee
  • Documents and organizes Monthly Reports, presents monthly ERC updates on all initiatives to AS Staff
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications:
  • Must be enrolled as an SFSU student with a minimum of 6 units for undergraduates or 4 units for graduates.
  • One (1) year minimum experience (volunteer/internship/paid) in a leadership role in sustainability programs.
  • Demonstrated interest in the environment, environmental justice and sustainability initiatives.
  • Ability to manage projects with minimum supervision, initiate ideas, develop plans, and complete projects within the specified deadlines.
  • Ability to work well with culturally diverse individuals.
  • Attention to detail, as well as, strong leadership, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in preparing and entering information
  • Excellent verbal, writing, and presentation skills; clearly expresses ideas and suggestions.
  • Ability to speak and present to small and large groups of diverse internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to establish & maintain cooperative working relationships with diverse students, faculty, staff, AS Board of Directors, vendors and contractors.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), Email, Google Drive, Google Calendar, and social media marketing.
