The Probation Department is seeking a Probation Division Director. The incumbent will be responsible to plan, organize, and direct the operation of a major division, program, or institution of the Probation Department; and to do other work as required. The incumbent will be assigned an administrative function handling special programs, policies and procedures, and providing coaching and mentoring to subordinate managers.
Seeking candidates with experience as a Division Director and those with experience coaching and mentoring subordinate managers.
Positions in this class are utilized in the major divisions, programs, or institutions of the Probation Department. Incumbents report to a Chief Deputy Probation Officer and direct the operations of a division, program, or institution through subordinate staff. This class is distinguished from the next class of Chief Deputy Probation Officer by the latter's responsibility for managing a number of divisions or institutions within the department.

Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree, preferably with a major in the behavioral sciences.
Experience: Four years of administrative or supervisory experience as a peace officer in probation programs.
Other Requirements
License: Possession of a valid California Driver's License.
Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship within three years after submitting a resume for employment.
Criminal Record: No felony convictions; cannot be on probation.
Background: Candidates must be able to pass an extensive background check which may take several months. All employment offers are contingent upon successful completion of both a pre-employment physical exam, including a drug/alcohol test, and a criminal background investigation, which involves fingerprinting. (A felony or misdemeanor conviction may disqualify the applicant from County employment).
Knowledge of: The principles, methods, and techniques of administration, including the organization and management of modern probation services; laws, codes, and statutes pertaining to the functions, duties, and operations of a county probation department; social and psychological factors relating to and treatment of crime and delinquency; the principles, methods, techniques, and services involved in probation work; the organization and the long-term goals of the department; effective supervisory principles and techniques.
Ability to: Effectively supervise and direct through subordinate supervisors the operation of a probation division or institution; analyze administrative problems, reach practical conclusions, and institute effective changes; prepare comprehensive and complex reports; establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, staff, officials, and the public.
