Job Summary:

Transcribes physician orders and provides clerical support to nursing staff for smooth operation of the nursing unit under the supervision of the shift charge nurse. Monitors continuous EKG for basic and lethal cardiac arrhythmias. Interacts with staff, physicians, patients and families on the phone and on the Unit in a knowledgeable and understanding manner.

Job Requirements:

Education and Work Experience:

  • High School Education/GED or equivalent: Preferred
  • Previous experience as a Unit Clerk/Assistant in a hospital setting, basic computer skills and previous experience as a Monitor Technician in a step-down or critical care environment.: Preferred


Licenses/Certifications:
  • Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQIBLS) certification: Required
  • Completion of a basic cardiac arrhythmia class with passing score.: Preferred


Essential Functions:
  • Performs a variety of duties connected with cardiac rhythms displayed monitor screens. Reads, interprets, and relays pertinent information regarding the cardiac monitors to the appropriate personnel. Provides clerical support.
  • Monitors electrocardiogram continuously, identifies and interprets cardiac rhythms, documents arrhythmia and reports significant changes to nursing staff.
  • Supports the unit monitoring and evaluation process to improve patient outcome. Provides frontline electronic medical record order entry support for physicians and staff.
  • Monitors electronic medical records throughout the day and addresses concerns with the registered nurse as necessary.
  • Assists with admission and discharge process. Documents physician progress notes are ready in chart.
  • Maintains Central Electrocardiogram (EKG) Telemetry Monitoring system for Direct Observation Unit.

12 Hour Work Schedule, Variable shift alternating between 10-2230 and 1900-0730
24 hours weekly, 48 hours biweekly
