GTA is seeking a highly skilled and dynamic Principal Land Surveyor to lead and grow our thriving survey department in Arroyo Grande, CA. We have a terrific survey team in place, and we're looking for a dedicated leader to further elevate our department's impact and market presence along the Central Coast. This role is vital to GTA's mission, focusing on leadership, market growth, precise land surveys, data analysis, and collaboration with engineering teams to support regional land development and public improvement projects. The ideal candidate is a strong leader with entrepreneurial drive and a proven record of achieving results. We strongly prefer to hire a current resident of Santa Barbara County or San Luis Obispo County.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the survey department, inspiring and guiding a talented team of surveyors and technicians.
  • Develop and implement strategies to expand GTA's market share in surveying throughout the Central Coast.
  • Conduct field surveys using advanced surveying equipment, including total stations, GPS, and other geospatial tools.
  • Ensure high-quality survey data and accurate land mapping, with a focus on collaboration to drive project success.
  • Oversee preparation of detailed survey reports, maps, and diagrams, with a commitment to accuracy and innovation.
  • Maintain compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and standards.
  • Foster a culture of growth, continuous improvement, and strong teamwork within the survey department.
  • Provide mentorship and career development opportunities to junior team members.

Qualifications

  • Proven leadership experience in land surveying, with the ability to inspire, guide, and elevate teams.
  • Expertise in land surveying, data analysis, and technical report preparation.
  • Proficiency with modern survey equipment, such as total stations and GPS, and associated geospatial technology.
  • Strong knowledge of California land codes, regulations, and zoning requirements.
  • Exceptional communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with teams and clients.
  • Bachelor's or Associates degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering, Geomatics, or a related field is highly desirable, though not a requirement.
  • Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license in California required (or ability to obtain within six months).
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the drive to grow and develop new market opportunities

Salary & Benefits

  • Estimated Salary: $100,000 - $125,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
