ABOUT THE CITY:

The City of Atascadero, California is a beautiful, small, central coast community with a population of 30,000. We are situated in San Luis Obispo County along Highway 101, halfway between the metropolitan areas of Los Angeles and San Francisco. The community is located in the Paso Robles wine region and is a short 20-minute drive to the beach and Highway 1, within a three-hour drive to Yosemite or Sequoia National Parks and only about two hours to Big Sur, Monterey or Carmel. The City of Atascadero has an opening to for a Service Worker position located at our Pavilion on the Lake with our Community Services and Promotions Department. The Pavilion on the Lake is the City of Atascadero's premier event venue and is an excellent location for a Wedding, Banquet, Reception, Meeting, Conference and many other special events.

GENERAL PURPOSE:

This is a Part-Time position; dependent upon Department or Division assignment, and under general supervision, may be responsible for oversight of recreation and other programs; opening and closing of City facility in support of user groups; provide oversight of the facility and help to ensure users abide by established City policies and procedures; greet users and members of the public and respond to questions; work with volunteer and community organizations that are using or have assigned work-duties at the facility; help to oversee patron needs and safety; equipment and furniture setup for events. Part-Time schedules may vary between 10-25 hours per week, depending on the current needs of the Department.
Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties as listed in the description listed above, and additionally as follows: Under general supervision, may perform a wide variety of custodial duties including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming and restroom cleaning; provide building attendant services; follow set procedures in a timely and safe manner for set-up and take-down of chairs, tables and other furniture; set up audio-visual equipment if needed; provide building security; complete and maintain necessary paperwork and checklist as needed. May perform a variety of park and/or facility maintenance responsibilities such as sports field preparation, weed trimming, pruning, and trash pickup; assist with or lead recreational activities under the general supervision of higher-level staff. Duties may be for the Recreation Division/Colony Park Community Center facility, and/or for the Pavilion on the Lake facility.

Typical Qualifications

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination of education, training and/or experience that could likely provide the desired knowledge and abilities to fulfill the duties of the position satisfactorily. A typical background could include graduation from high school or equivalent with at least one year of custodial or manual labor experience. Additional qualifications could include: knowledge of proper lifting techniques, proper use and maintenance of cleaning supplies, ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, ability to maintain good working relationships, ability to work independently, conscientiously and effectively in the absence of a supervisor, knowledge of recreational needs of senior, adult and youth user groups, possess excellent customer service skills, possession of or ability to obtain CPR and First Aid certifications; availability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends or as needed; ability to stand for extended periods of time.

EMPLOYEE BENEFITS:

This position is a temporary part-time classification with the City and is not eligible for benefits, however, the employee will be covered for Worker's Compensation, enrolled in a qualified defined contribution pension plan as defined by the Federal Government, and will be eligible for sick leave under the City's Sick Leave Police for Part-Time employees. Compensation is salary only.
