About the Position

The County of San Luis Obispo has an exciting opportunity for you to join our team! We are looking for professional and motivated team members with experience as an administrative assistant or experience with clerical tasks including computer skills.

This is a continuous recruitment and the list created will be used to fill permanent, temporary, substitute, part-time, and full-time positions in various departments throughout the County. Individuals who complete all steps of the recruitment and areplaced on the eligible list will remain on the list for three months, and may be contacted as positions become available.

Candidates will be hired at the level (Administrative Assistant I, II, or III) based on experience and department need.

Required Qualifications:
A combination of education, training, and experience resulting in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of qualifying education and experience includes:

All levels: Graduation from High School or possession of a G.E.D AND

Administrative Assistant I: Either A: 6 months of experience performing duties comparable to Administrative Assistant Aide. Or B: One year of general clerical experience including word-processing/computer experience.

Administrative Assistant II: Either A: One year of experience performing duties comparable to Administrative Assistant I. Or B: Two years of experience performing a wide variety of clerical and administrative assistant duties including word-processing/computer experience.

Administrative Assistant III: Either A: One year of experience performing duties comparable to an Administrative Assistant II. Or B: Three years of experience performing a wide variety of clerical and administrative assistant duties including word-processing/computer experience.

Possession of either a Certificate of Proficiency in secretarial, clerical, or library studies or possession of a paralegal certificate from an accredited institution will substitute for up to one year of the general clerical experience.

Pension Benefit and Employee Contribution Rates:
The County's pension is a defined benefit plan that provides a guaranteed monthly pension payment for life based on your time in service, wages, and other factors. The County is the primary contributor to the pension fund, but the health of the pension fund also depends on mandatory employee contributions. Employees are required to pay a percentage of their base pay towards the pension fund, ranging from 5% to 19%. This amount is deducted from your paycheck pre-tax every pay period.
