Work Schedule: On Call/ Per Diem

Shift: 8-hour, Variable Shifts **Job Summary:** Under general supervision, staff is responsible for the prompt and accurate assembly and delivery of patient meals via Room Service. Follows policies and procedures for entering patient rooms and delivering meals. Follows policies and procedures to protect patient health information and confidentiality. Assembles trays and nourishments according to order. Delivers guest trays to assigned areas and is able to perform necessary payment transaction. Demonstrates general knowledge of modified diets used in the acute hospital setting. Assembles and portions foods according to recipes and diagrams. Communicates with all members of the medical team and patients in a respectful and open manner. Accepts responsibility for own actions. Uses computer software applications to print reports. Demonstrates safe food handling techniques and infection control principles. **Essential Functions:**

* Performs menu activities for patients of all ages including adolescent, adult and geriatric. Delivers menus to patient care unit. Assists patients with food choices as needed. Demonstrates the ability to perform behavioral competencies (general and unit specific) as indicated on the competency inventory. Demonstrates the ability to perform developmental age-related needs of the specific population served.

* Assembles patient trays in a timely and accurate manner. Assures that the tray is arranged properly, is appropriate in appearance, and the quality of the meal meets the established criteria for all ages of patients including adolescent, adult and geriatric. Demonstrates the ability to perform developmental age-related needs of the specific population served. Delivers patient meal trays, assuring accuracy of trays and food temperature.

* Assembles and delivers prescribed nourishment in a timely, accurate, and appropriate manner. Demonstrates the ability to perform behavioral competencies (general and unit specific) as indicated on the competency inventory.

* Delivers guest trays to assigned area and is able to perform necessary payment transaction.

* Disseminates information via oral or written messages to or from nursing staff, management, dietitians, and food production staff.

* Uses customer service skills in performing job responsibilities to patients, families, visitors, and staff.

* Uses safe food handling techniques and follows required food sanitation policies and procedures.

* Participates in performance improvement activities as assigned. Demonstrates the ability to perform behavioral competencies (general and unit specific) as indicated on the competency inventory.

* Assemble and deliver floor stock to assigned unit pantries. Rotates food and non-food items according to the FIFO method of inventory. Checks and records unit refrigerator/freezer temperatures and monitors compliance.

**Skills:**

* Knowledge of normal nutrition and modified diets for all age groups from adolescent to geriatrics.

* Excellent oral and written communication skills.

* Excellent customer services skills.

* Basic math skills.

* Visual abilities for observation of patients, reading, writing, and tray assembly.

* Ability to project a caring attitude.

* Common sense and dependability.

* Ability to work independently, as well as, part of a team with fellow staff members.

* Proficient in required competencies upon completion of orientation, as listed on specific competency inventory.

* Computer skills.

**Minimum Position Requirements:** **Experience:** 3 months Food Service experience. **Preferred Position Qualifications:** **Experience:** Food Service experience in a hospital or restaurant setting.
