**Kitchen Assistant**

Camps & Adventure (Seasonal) Fairfax or Arnold, California Minimum Experience **Entry-level** Compensation **$100.00-$110.00 per day Daily (DOE) + Meal and Lodging** Location(s): The Kitchen Assistant assists in preparing and serving nutritious meals to all campers, staff and guests . They are responsible for the maintenance, cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen and dishwashing area. Serve as a role model to campers and staff by your actions, appearance, manners, language, and general conduct. Participate enthusiastically in camp activities, supporting those as assigned. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: - Assist in the daily operations of the camp food service.

- Assist in the preparation of food as the menu indicates including washing, peeling and cooking.

- Set up food, supplies, and utensils for dining hall distribution.

- Store food and leftovers at proper temperature.

- Stock the beverage bar, salad bar, cereal bar and supply refills as needed.

- Assist with preparing pack-outs to groups doing cookout meals.

- Assist in routine sanitation of the kitchen and related equipment.

- Clean and maintain all food-preparation and storage areas.

- Wash all dishes and equipment according to regulated washing methods and temperatures.

- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and safety.

- Reduce waste, reuse items, and recycle as indicated through the camps procedures.

- Sweep, mop and maintain floors.

- Assist in the preparation and packaging of food for use outside the dining hall.

- Review pack out requests to ensure adequate and accurate amounts and variety.

- Prepare and store pack out food according to camp and health code procedures.

- Advise staff on equipment or preparation materials needed for identified menu choices.

- Performs all duties in accordance with prescribed regulatory compliance guidelines, including local, state and federal guidelines as well as American Camp Association accreditation standards.

- Assist during emergencies.

- Assist in conducting initial and end-of-season inventory.

- Follow schedule for checking facilities and equipment for safety, cleanliness and good repair.

- Be aware of and implement safety guidelines.

- Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff.

- Follow all health and safety protocols, which may include mask-wearing, social distancing, frequent handwashing, Covid-testing, and disinfection of high-touch areas as outlined during staff orientation.

- Provide the daily care of each camper within your supervision including recognition of personal health needs.

- Ensure that campers receive their medications as directed by health staff.

- Be alert to campers needs and assist them with personal and/or health problems, and discuss with health staff and/or Camp Director when appropriate.

- Be alert to equipment and facilities to ensure proper utilization, care, and maintenance is adhered to; report repairs needed promptly.

- Report accidents, incidents, and illnesses promptly.

- Supervise unit housekeeping and sanitation. See that supplies are available and that equipment is used properly.

- Submit a Covid-19 vaccination record, or regular Covid-19 testing results.

- Be a role model to campers and staff in your attitude and behavior.

- Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures.

- Adhere to the Camp Culture Code.

- Provide superior client service to all campers, parents/families, staff, volunteers and vendors.

- Identify client needs, make suggestions, initiate and follow through with appropriate action.

- Participate as a member of the camp staff team to support programs, special events, trips, overnights and other all-camp activities and camp functions.

- Attend staff meetings.

- Assist on camper arrival and departure days.

- Other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge and experience with Girl Scout resident camp program preferred. Ability to relate to youth and adults in a positive manner. Ability to work independently, self-starter and organized. Ability to accept guidance, direction and supervision. Ability to work well with others and perform as part of a team. Experience in food service preferred. Ability to communicate and work with girls grades K-12 and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff. Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to hazards. Ability to lift 50 pounds. Ability to carry and load dishes, tables, chairs, and other program equipment. Ability to walk/hike several miles daily, at various grades, elevations, and on uneven terrain. Ability to live in a rustic setting and work irregular hours. Ability to safely utilize and maintain kitchen equipment, including use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
