Job Description POSITION OBJECTIVE:

The Safety Manager is responsible for managing Sees company-wide safety program by providing on-site safety leadership across all locations, improving safety performance, and ensuring facility and shop safety policies and procedures are aligned with company goals and governmental laws/regulations.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Develops, improves and supports the company wide safety program designed to reduce the number and severity of work related injuries, illnesses and workers compensation claims.

- Ensures that Sees complies and operates under all state and federal laws, regulations and guidelines regarding safety. Represents Sees in interactions with OSHA and other safety related regulatory agencies, including but not limited to developing proactive communication protocols.

- Works with all Sees leadership team members and business units to continually enhance a safety-oriented culture, through utilizing effective communication, continuous improvement principles and building appropriate systems and processes.

- Provides direction to or manages third party vendors that provide safety and industrial hygiene services, and/or loss control services.

- Conducts site safety audits and job safety analyses for manufacturing and non-manufacturing (including retail) operations, including but not limited machine guarding, fall protection compliance, lock out/tag out, employee safety observations and gap assessments.

- Develops and implements safety training programs that ensure adequate training is completed prior to interactions with equipment, including new equipment or changes to existing equipment.

- Establishes protocols and framework to collect data related to all work related accidents, incidents and near misses; reviews and analyzes all data, identifies and prioritizes risks and corrective actions.

- Develops and/or enhances on-site investigation procedures; conducts, trains and delegates such investigations to ensure they provide data and metrics that can be utilized to improve the safety program.

- Applies evaluative tools for benchmarking job tasks and develops mitigation strategies for common risk factors, e.g. NIOSH Work Practice Guide, RULA and Hand Strain Index.

- Recognizes safety training needs; designs and delivers effective safety training programs. Ensures compliance with OSHA required training.

- Develops and administers recognition program for safety excellence and improvement.

- Provides technical advice, coaching, guidance and mentoring to employees and line management on safety initiatives and other safety related matters.

- Key partner in monthly Safety Committee meetings; leads efforts to keep Sees Injury and Illness Prevention Program and Sees Emergency Action Plan up to date and in compliance with regulations.

- Manages industrial hygiene activities including hazard assessments, noise monitoring and hearing conservation, confined space entry and personal protective equipment requirements.

- Establishes procedures for maintaining and updating SDS manuals; distributes to all appropriate work areas and shops and provide training as necessary.

- Completes special projects as required.

- Establishes principles for change and maintains change momentum through employee communication, engagement and development. Also learns from, measures and sustains change results.

- Responsible for identifying opportunities to enhance technology and innovation that will improve departmental effectiveness.

Job Requirements

- Professional designation of Certified Safety Professional (CSP), and/or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or equivalent work experience.

- Bachelors degree in Occupational Health and Safety and/or Industrial Engineering; equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

- Comprehensive and current knowledge of federal, state and local laws governing safety rules and regulations.

- Minimum 5 years previous experience in a safety management role for a manufacturing and/or distribution business, food industry experience preferred.

- Proven ability to effectively work with and generate positive outcomes with employees at all levels of a diverse workforce.

- Ability to maintain highest levels of judgement, integrity and confidentiality.

- Demonstrated ability to convey ideas clearly and concisely with all employees at all levels in both written and oral communications.

- Excellent problem solving skills, inherent intellectual curiosity and ability to work constructively with others.

- Strong PC skills utilizing a variety of software and operating systems/applications.

- Proven ability to learn new technologies quickly and manage change efficiently, proactively and in a positive manner.

- Physical ability to handle the essential functions of the job including standing, walking, talking for prolonged periods of time; occasional periods of twisting, bending, stooping; frequent lifting and moving up to 20 pounds.

- Frequent overnight and out of area travel required.

- Bilingual English plus Spanish or Chinese preferred.
